Pitt Loses Scholarship G Michael Hueitt

The Pitt Panthers suffered some in-season attrition this week.

PITTSBURGH -- Shortly after the Pitt Panthers secured one of their biggest wins of the season over Wake Forest, they got some bad news as a scholarship guard decided to depart from the program.

Michael Hueitt, a late addition to Pitt's roster this season, has left the team due to personal reasons, according to a statement from the program. The Panthers now have just 10 healthy scholarship players left on the roster.

Hueitt filled the roster spot left open by the departure of Dior Johnson, who was dismissed from the team before the start of the 2023 fall semester. He transferred in from UNC Greensboro and appeared in five games, averaging 3.2 points per game on seven of 10 shooting from the field. He had not played in a game since mid-December.

The Panthers will play with just three scholarship guards - Ishmael Leggett, Jaland Lowe and Bub Carrington. Sophomore wing Jorge Diaz Graham has been sidelined indefinitely with an injury, freshman center Papa Kante is out for the season with a knee injury and Pitt planned on redshirting freshman Marlon Barnes but that could change with how thin the roster has become.
